I went to sLOVEnia with my girlfriend this year.

We used the camper van I built with my dad this year. It was a very pleasent stay without trouble and a wonderful time indeed.

First, we went to visit an uncle in munich and then got to stay in front of a known hotel to stay for the night near Bad Tölz. Before sleeping, we did go for a walk near a lake.

The van does have a roof tent, so the maximum size is actually 2.3m with the tent, making it impossible to enter typical parking garages. Yet, we found a free parking lot 100m further away, so we did arrive in time to get breakfast at our desired cafe location. We also heard the “Tölzer Schützenmarsch” played from a march at the street - so we did get the full bavaria experience :)

After visiting Bad Tölz, getting the feet into the Isar and enjoying life a little, we went ahead to slovenia and used the tauern motorail from Böckstein/Gastein to Möll Valley. It did cost us 13,50€, which is not that much more than using the highway section toll of 8,50€ + the milage. As we just missed the motorail when we go there, we decided to cook pasta in the camper, which was a good usage of the time, so that we exactly just finished to get the next one.

We slept on the other side at a parking lot which is accessible for people using the ÖBB train service and had a good night there.

In Austria, I visited an friend of mine, who had a horse ranch. I did not see him for more than 14 years, so it was really pleasent to see everything again, ride a horse again, swim in the lake there and enjoy life in Kärnten. We did also muck out the stables so that we were quite exhausted at the end of the day, as it also was very hot.

Slovenia

As we had a slow travel to slovenia with a few visits of acquaintances, we arrived in slovenia on our fourth day. It is very great there and there are many places were one just can stay for a few hours and walk a while in the nature.

Though, Slovenia is not too big, so at our first evening we went to a village near the capitalb Ljubljana. We tried to get into a restaurant there, but have not found one. All the places in that village on Google Maps were either vacant or did not look anything like a restaurnat at all. That’s a weird pattern I have seen a few times now.. So we did cook ourselves again and had a good meal as well.

As it is not that easy and cheap to visit cities with a car, I tend to like it much better to stay outside of the city and travel into the city by public transport. We found a park and ride parking lot and wanted to take the bus. Somehow, my credit card did not have contactless payment enabled and the girocard did not work. As cash was not accepted either, we were waved through without paying anything. Weird, but I can’t complain.

Bled

The next day, we went to Bled, which is a small town near the lake with the same name. In the middle of the lake, there is the Bled Castle. Parking in this area is quite expensive with up to 6€ per hour, but we found a spot which did only cost 3€/hour to stay there.

We walked around the whole lake, did get up to the castle and back to our parking spot, where we went swimming.

To go for a hike, we stayed at a nice place on a mountain, where we also had access to a shower and electricity (though we did not need it, as the 2kWh battery is oversized anyway). There is a nice church around.

We did also had a hike to the Bela peč and did stay for two nights at this place for 15€/day which is much better than the overcrowded camping sites which do cost more than twice as much.

Last but not least, we went to Bovec near Soča Valley to do Canyoning, which was the first time ever for me. One can get a glimpse of it from this YouTube video:

Finally, we had another night in Slovenia before we went home again.
